Head Start Supporters Fear Impact of Threatened Cutbacks

In Congress, there have been two proposed bills either cutting or increasing funding for Head Start. Both have failed. Head Start advocates fear that a lack of funding for Head Start will have a ripple effect of negative impact – extending to state pre-K programs, after-school care and staff size. Cuts for Head Start funding could mean the loss of all progress made as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and a loss of 218,000 children currently enrolled.
